Port of Call for Sandy Point Abaco

January 1, 2004 - Government may consider a port of call for Sandy Point
The Prime Minister, The Hon. Mr. Perry Christie, while addressing the opening ceremony of the first Government-owned and operated containerised port facility in Abaco stated the Government may consider sometime in the future the creation of a port of call for cruise ships just off Sandy Point. It was further stated that the prospect of cruise ships coming to Abaco is one of such profound economic implication that one can describe it as transforming if we are able to do it, and obviously we must be sensitive to the environmental concerns, but we must be very careful in ensuring that we do not miss opportunities that other countries have found a way of taking advantage of. The Prime Minister also stated "we have the opportunity for Abaco to move forward ahead with investment opportunities to ensure that both North and South have an opportunity to develop in a more equitable fashion, taking advantage of the strength of the people and the assets of nature."
